GOODWILL CARS TO WORK℠
Goodwill Cars to Work℠ is an effort to provide affordable options for people who face transportation challenges in getting to work. Especially in rural areas, transportation is among the top three barriers to finding and maintaining employment, alongside childcare and lack of training. Seeing an opportunity to make a significant impact on this population, Goodwil
l Industries of Kentucky created Cars to Work. With the assistance of Representative Jimmie Lee (D-Elizabethtown) and Senator Dan Seum (R-Louisville), and the support of automobile dealers across the state, Kentucky’s Goodwill was granted a nonprofit auto dealer’s license to establish the program. Cars to Work helps people with disabilities or other disadvantages obtain affordable, dependable transportation to achieve and maintain employment and improve their quality of life. While Cars to Work vehicles are not available to the general public, individuals interested in obtaining a vehicle from Cars to Work may qualify by being referred to the program by a nonprofit social service provider or governmental agency. The agency case worker and Cars to Work personnel will collaborate to assist the potential buyer with obtaining a no-interest loan on a vehicle that is covered by a warranty for major repairs throughout the loan’s duration.
